I'm Running for Utah Legislative House District 63
As a US History Teacher, I spend every day talking about America. My students learn the facts and why they matter. We explore the reasons, the repetition, and the humanity of us all. I graduated from BYU in History and English Teaching. I also hold a Master's degree in American History from Gettysburg College. As an historian, my areas of research focus on historiography, the act of learning and using history, constitutional government, and civil rights and equality. My thesis focused on the long term impacts on those held at the Topaz Internment Camp near Delta, Utah. I have had some wonderful opportunities to present at multiple state and national conferences to share teaching ideas with other educators. For more about me, click here.
People & Principles Before Party
During times of chaos or confusion it is important to focus on the rules - our founding documents. Unfortunately, too many people have never read them and or don't fully understand them. Our current society values politics, then people, then principles. We can unitedly reorder society by remembering our principles, applying them to humanity through our actions, and only then acknowledging political ideologies. My campaign is not traditional. My overall goal is to unify America (and Americans) through connecting and educating people and spreading the need for civic virtue.
What is Civic Virtue?
Civic Virtue is when individuals act on their integrity and are willing to personally sacrifice for the good of the community. Civic Virtue is doing what is right because it is the right thing to do, not because a person gets something from it. It is giving of yourself to build others. It is reaching out and reaching up - unitedly. Civic Virtue requires individuals to use their agency positively to unite and build. In so doing, the community itself is strengthened due to the sacrifice of the people within it. As more and more people choose civic virtue, its power spreads, strengthening the community, state, and nation. If you would like more information about the processes that take place as Civic Virtue is implemented, see the last slide on the Foundations of Government Quiz below. The bottom line is that Civic Virtue Works.
How can I use this campaign to spread Civic Virtue? My platform is simple. Give people the tools to educate themselves. Help as needed. Provide opportunities to serve. Spread the good. Encourage Civic Virtue. If elected, work within the legislature to do the same. I am much more concerned about meeting my overall goal than I am getting elected, but I do need votes to make a noticeable impact and to show that people can create change. Thank you for visiting my site and for your consideration!
